This summer, heat up your poetry with passionate particulars. Devote a day to exploring the vivid details that authenticate great work. Where do you draw the line between rich detail that enhances a poem and description that dazzles the writer but not the reader?
We'll explore the multitude of cataloguing, the resonance of descriptive objects, and examine how particulars bring both the personal and the political home to the reader. Analysis and discussion, interspersed with dynamic exercises, will give hints on when to describe with gusto and when to hold back.
Submit up to two poems for optional critique (one for in-class critique, another returned w/written comments). Bring a sack lunch. Together we'll lust after, size up and flirt with the devil in the details until we "bring the devil to his knees."
Go to the Craft & Critique page for more information about this and other Craft & Critique classes.
